“Since I started Ticker, I know I am a way better husband, father, and teacher than I’ve been in a long time, I have a greater ability to give more of myself to the people I love.”
– Vaughn Smith, Competitive Masters Athlete
Fun Fact:
Vaughn will argue anyone, anytime, that Cinnamon Toast Crunch is the ultimate breakfast cereal.

Vaughn is a long time successful competitive CrossFit athlete who wanted to continue doing what he loved but found that instead of getting better, faster, and stronger, and despite lots of hard work, time, and dedication to intense and heavy training, he had simply stopped progressing. Essentially, Vaughn hit a point where his body had stopped absorbing his training and he needed a program that supports his passions and helps him manage balance of training with a career and a family. His wife and kids love the person who he has become after starting a Ticker program as they get more of him as his happiest self.
Evolution of MAF and Training Recommendations by Date

Vaughn was the perfect example of an athlete that was killing himself trying to be fit; he encompassed the No Pain No Gain mentality and trained hard and fast at the expense of progression. Slowing down to learn to pace and become efficient, focus on developing better eating habits, and determination to stay on course have set Vaughn up to no longer wake up in the morning and wonder if he was injured, sore, sick, or just getting old. Having a new lease on life his options are limitless!
